Betta Bilda Daleks By Tim Harris This page first posted to the internet Friday 9th May 2014. Last updated Saturday 10th May 2014. |
When I was a kid in the early 1970s Lego was more expensive than the cheaper alternative Betta Bilda that was produced by Airfix. Betta Bilda was betta in my opinion as the bricks were smaller and therefore more intricate buildings could be made. Not that I cared about building houses, no not once my brothers had come up with a Dalek design made of Betta Bilda. From then on I played with Daleks made of toy bricks, with other bricks acting as soldiers fighting against them. I'd rarely ever build houses after that, I was more interested in creating Daleks and other alien menaces to enact large-scale battles with. The bricks survive to this day and out of some weird nostalgia have reproduced some of the creature designs that I played with all those years ago. I've also added a Dinky police box and Bessie in places to show a sense of scale. Inverted versions of these pictures can be found here. |
More piccies of the police box and Bessie can be found on my Police Box and Car page For photos of 1970s Matchbox Cars and Corgi Juniors Cars go to my Toy Cars page |
