My Favourite Film Work These are the videos which, for me, stand out above all other video work I have been involved in. |
A Hill Of Beans (1995) | All 'Misfits' films should be made this way. |
Xonus (1995) | ...Or they should be made this way. |
Taking What's Mine (1997) | Great soundtrack, great titles, great editing. |
The Marriage of Christine and Stephen (2001) |
In general I don't film many weddings but this one was immensely pleasurable. I'm very proud of this video. |
My Least Favourite Film Work These are the filming experiences / videos which I don't particularly care for. |
Gel (2001) If you had the choice to stage 'Grease', an excellent musical that most people have heard of (and like), or 'Gel', a musical nobody has heard of, you'd probably opt for 'Grease'. Not so for the college that performed 'Gel' after turning down 'Grease'. It is the singularly worst musical it's ever been my misfortune to see. It was awful to watch and more awful to edit. Thankfully it only lasts 94 minutes on screen. It's not a particularly well-filmed video, it has too many long shots. There were too many people on stage at any one time (simply standing still) and it was very difficult to see who was talking at any point. Co-filmer Phil Young and myself filmed it unenthusiastically and this comes across on the tape. Phil Young and I agreed we weren't going to release the tape (and never have) after 'discussions' with the show's producer. This one is likely never to be seen: my own copy will remain being kicked around the floor (where it's lain since 2001). Phil's copy went missing in the post and I personally thank Royal Mail for this unknowing act of kindness. |
When We Are
Married (1998?) Two cameras, one tripod. One tripod had been left behind by accident and this made for an unevenly-filmed production. The show itself was very good but Phil and myself withdrew the tape (after producing just three copies) because I didn't like the edited version. |
A music video
(1996? 1997?) Phil Young and I were asked to film a music video for a girl who will remain nameless. Footage was shot on two days using eight dancers and the singer. Personal problems then flared amongst people involved in the filming and it was cancelled. The footage was wiped. |
HMS Pinafore
(1998) I really do not like Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, they bore the life out of me. I'd previously declined to film a previous show (The Mikado) for the same group and did not want to do this one. What changed my mind was the fact it was teamed up with another show (Songs Of Gershwin & Bernstein) and this interested me. The tape was one of the most boring editing experiences of my life: I hated it. The tape is badly edited as well, my heart was not in it. |
